Mid-Century Modern Toy Cars

Recently, we were browsing at a local toy store, letting the little one pick out a few things. The grandparents were in town and doing what grandparents do, spoiling the kid.

As we were wondering and making important decisions ("You don't need two yellow balls. Pick one yellow ball and we'll get something else too.") I caught a glimpse of these really cool modern car toys. The weird thing was they were in a glass case; none of the other cars were protected from little fingers. I figured they were a little more expensive, but they're really well-designed, modern-looking car toys so I thought a little extra expense might be worth it. Then I saw the price tag and quickly moved away from the modern toy cars before the kid saw them and feel in love with them too.

But these Playforever cars are fantastic eye candy so you should still give them a look.

Retro-Future Kid's Tees

I was looking for something completely different on Zulily when when I came across these retro-future kid's t-shirts. (FYI, searching "retro" on some sites gets you nothing that's actually retro or retro-looking, except for three kids shirts.)

Kid's Hairpin Leg Chair

Patty wrote me asking if I knew anything about this children's hairpin leg chair. As much as I know about the history of hairpin legs, I've never seen this mid-century chair before.

It's really neat. I love the extended hairpins on the back legs, I've never seen anything like that before. I'm wondering in anyone out there in internet land has.

Mid-Century Desk with Bar (and a Lazy Susan)

We all have our white whales; the piece that got away that we haven't seen in years that haunts us. It might be some unsigned piece that already had a sold tag on it when you first saw it. Or that one thing that you saw at an flea market, but by the time you got to the booth was already gone. It's part of loving vintage furniture; it's part of the hunt.

I was reminded of my white whale today when I happened upon an image of it.

It's a mid-century teak desk bar with drawers on the left and a lazy Susan behind the cabinet on the right. I've never seen the front of this bar desk combo, and I don't even know anything about it (maker, etc), but I would buy it sight unseen if I ever happened upon it again. I've only seen it twice (never without a sold tag already on it) and I know I may never see it again. 

I have (arguably) one of the best mid-century desks already in my home, and I have no place to put another desk, but like any mid-century furniture enthusiast, I would find space and reason to capture my white whale if I ever got a real chance at it.

Vintage Wallpaper World Map for Travel Nursery

I have seen images of this quilt-inspired, vintage-looking world map wallpaper around a few places (Pinterest if I'm honest), but I can't find the source for it. I can tell it's wallpaper from the seams I can see, but I have no idea who made it or when they did.

The set up photos look more like modern nurseries than mid-century nurseries, so I think it's vintage-looking wallpaper and not authentically old, but you'd think something this pretty would still be for sale if it was new.

If you can find it, this vintage-looking world map wallpaper would be a great addition to any travel-themed nursery.
