Done: New Light in the Study

The old light in the study wasn't the worst thing in the world. But it wasn't pretty, or bright enough.

And there's something in me that hates the look of rippled glass. It's why I changed the living room doorway light.

So this weekend I swapped it out for this Design House ceiling light.

It was the best flush-mount, mid-century modern ceiling light that I could find that took standard bulbs (I hate halogen). And it's pretty and, with two bulbs, it's definitely bright enough.

  1. Big improvement over what you had originally. I have a sputnik foyer light that would have looked so sweet there but you are so far away...

    1. Thanks! We definitely think it makes the room look better and brighter.

  3. Looks so much better than the ripple glass! It's so hard to find new, modern lighting at a reasonable price though.

If you get a chance, come on over to midcenturymidwest.blogspot.com. We have a rug dilemma and need your help!

    1. It's unbelievably hard to find well-priced modern lighting. I only had 4 requirements: ceiling mount, no halogen, under $100 and looks good. That essentially limited my selection to this light or nothing.

And rug questioned answered (I like #1).

  4. There really isn't anything out there at all unless you go to some of the "hipster" shops in the big cities, and then it'll cost you an arm and a leg. Thank goodness I found my sputnik lamp at an estate sale. If you are looking for another ceiling light, go check out The Brick House. They have a really neat looking DIY retro-modern chandelier that can be put together on the cheap.

    1. That is a really neat DIY chandelier. Thanks for sharing. I think the only ceiling lights we still need are in the dining room, and I'm holding out for some Moe honeycomb lights for that area.
