Broyhill Sculptra Dresser

I realized that I never put up pictures of the Broyhill Sculptra 6-drawer dresser (which we found on craigslist) that inspired the purchase of the Broyhill desk. It doesn't have the classic square pattern that defines most of the Sculptra furniture line, but I prefer this look.
The handle that started it all
The Broyhill Premier collection logo to prove it's a Sculptra
The drawers match the desk perfectly
Isn't mid-century furniture pretty?

  2. With the Broyhill Sculptra line, the mirror was a separate piece that could be purchased and attached to any of the larger pieces. If you look at the back you probably see two poles attached with screws.

It's hard to say how much it's worth. As with any vintage piece a lot depends on condition, what region of the country you live in and a bevy of other factors. Generally speaking though, I've seen Scupltra dressers sell for a few to five hundred dollars. However, I've never seen this specific dresser for sale. I've only ever seen the dressers with the typical Sculptra square motif on them sold.

This piece amazes me. I also collect sculptra and picked one of these up at an auction last week. They don't have the rear lip that is on every other sculptra piece. Mine has a piece of marble in between the two chests and a 5' sculptra mirror that hangs above the marble between the chests. I have never seen this anywhere else. Your find is the only other "dual chest" dresser I have found. Excellent score!

    1. Interesting. I've never heard of a Sculptra dresser with marble in it. Do you think it's original or a repair?

  4. Where could I find the metal cat eye looking hardware on the drawers?

    1. The pulls are inset in the Broyhill Sculptra dresser and are part of the original build, and are actually wood. Because they're inset I've never see any cabinet pulls that look like them for sale. The closest thing would be probably be boomerang cabinet pulls, but those would go out instead of in.

    2. The pulls are inset, but unscrew and come out. They are made of aluminum and hand painted to resemble wood. Your options for finding a replacement would seem limited to ebay or molding and casting the piece at home. Keep us updated if/when you find a solution. Good luck!

    1. In reference to the cat's eye hardware on the drawers: I was able to have one 3D printed. Just sent the exact measurements and some pictures to the 3D print company and they made one that fits perfectly. It's made of plastic, but after primer and paint you can't tell. I'm so happy!

    2. That is an ingenious idea that would have never thought of. I'm betting 3D printing can be used to fix and duplicate all sorts of missing mid-century bits.

  6. Do you know what year this is? I'm looking for this exact model, the (earlier?) Sculptra, without the rectangular moldings in the center.

    1. It's less about the specific year and more about the options originally selected. What I've come to understand from the original Broyhill Sculptra brochure and Sculptra price sheets is that customers had some build-to-order options. This version of a Broyhill Sculptra dresser with six drawers and no box motif is actually two "functional drawer chests" on a "double platform base." Most people buying Sculptra furniture probably selected the classic box motif option since it would match their headboard and any other Sculptra furniture they had. This version of the dresser is probably a bit of an oddity.

You can read more about the different options and arrangements here: http://www.madformidcentury.com/2012/08/original-broyhill-sculptra-price-sheets.html

  7. Hi does anyone know of anyone selling just a Sculptra base? A dresser I’m considering buying has no base. Any ideas? Thanks

  8. I have this dresser but mine has 9 drawers (3 small separate pieces). I’ve never seen another one like it. I’ve had it about 10 years and it’s my favorite piece.
