Broyhill Premier Sculptra Canopy Bed

It wasn't so long ago that I was questioning the existence of the Sculptra canopy bed, or as the brochure calls it, the Broyhill Sculptra poster bed. But between it being in the Broyhill Sculpltra brochure and a the photos I've seen, there's no question anymore.

And another one has come out of the woodwork. A reader picked up this Sculptra canopy bed at a garage sale in San Francisco and was kind enough to send me photos.

I hadn't noticed the cut-out detail on the footboard before. It mimics the curves seen in other Sculptra pieces nicely, while still keeping a full piece of wood to hold the mattress. And I love those legs.

  1. Do you know the dimensions of the little canopy. I wonder why it wasn't designed to extend a little more out over the bed.

    1. I don't know the size of the actual canopy, sadly I've still never seen one in person, but it is pretty small. My guess it that this was more of a kids bed and the canopy is smaller so they wouldn't hang off it, etc. Or maybe to keep costs down.

  2. I inquired in the first post of the canopy bed and am so glad to see the brochure to verify it's existence. We are not so much of a Midcentury follower but one of "quality" furniture. Our son loves the canopy. This we feel will be a timeless and quality collection for him to move with him where ever he may go. I myself have questioned the "canopy" existance. We have re-enforced the canopy (very well) as it obviously is heavy and sit's over the head - had this been a question with Broyhill? Has this been as we say in modern times -"discontinued?"

As consumers comparing furniture - the Sculptra line far exceeds that of what is offered such as Ikea and even the ever so popular (but equally pricey) Pottery Barn.

    1. Glad your son likes the bed. I've never heard anything about the canopy being too heavy or unsafe - but truth be told, I haven't heard much at all about the Sculptra canopy bed till recently. It would have had to pass standard furniture safety standards back in the day, but those standards are always being updated, so it might not pass modern, more rigorous standards - especially if it was being sold/used as a child's bed.

I've heard rumors that the canopy was discontinued before the rest of the line was and that it was added to the line after the line long after launch. I haven't been able to verify either rumor, but, if true, either could explain why the bed is so rare.
